Partners and Collaborations
Tonight it’s Poetry loves to collaborate with other community organizations to put on shows and fundraisers or to send poets out into the community for performances. If you have an idea for a collaboration, please reach out to us.
A Saskatoon spoken word performance group for youth. Their emphasis is on accessibility and amplifying voices both as art and an essential means of communication. Run by youth, supported by Tonight it’s Poetry, Write Out Loud holds regular open stages, slam competitions, and workshops. An ASL Interpreter is present at all their shows.
A weekly poetry series in our sister city, Regina. Shows happen regularly on Fridays at 8 pm at the Creative City Center. We are happy to feature their slam team annually and to send our team out there to perform as well. We partner on opportunities to get big name poets to travel to Saskatchewan and perform along the prairie circuit.
An indigenous collective of artists promoting culture, literature, and spoken word art. At a minimum, Tonight it’s Poetry gives shout outs to all of the IPS events, and we also collaborate on running shows and sharing features when those opportunities arise.
Previously known as Spoken Word Canada (SPOCAN), this is the organizing body that runs the Slam Member Series and funds/organizes various annual poetry festivals throughout the year.
An annual national festival of Slam poetry competitions, workshops, and performances. Each year Tonight it’s Poetry assembles a team of Saskatoon’s top poets, as decided by the community at each of our monthly Slam competitions. The team members’ attendance to the festival is funded in part by Tonight it’s Poetry.
An annual national festival run by youth for youth with four days full of workshops, open mics, and showcases. Write out Loud organizes a team to attend each year, funded in part by Tonight it’s Poetry.
A national festival in celebration of words that takes place in Vancouver each year. Part of this festival is the Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS), during which slam poets from across Canada compete for bragging rights of best poet. Each year, Tonight it’s Poetry sends one representative from Saskatoon, as determined by the community at our annual CIPS Qualifier competition. The trip for the chosen poet is funded in part by Tonight it’s Poetry.
A not-for-profit cultural organization representing writers across the province to hone their craft. Tonight it’s Poetry regularly partners with the Guild to put on an event for Canadian Multiculturalism Day, among other celebrations.
An arts organization promoting the art of Storytelling and creating a supportive community of storytellers in Saskatoon. Annually, Tonight it’s Poetry and the Storytellers Guild collaborate on a Story Slam featuring storytellers both in the slam and as feature performers.
A local theater group mounting professional productions of plays by William Shakespeare. Tonight it’s Poetry connects the organizers to poets to participate in the community stage and pre-show performances.
An annual fundraiser in support of Girls Rock camps. The premise is similar – women learn to play an instrument, form a band, and write a song over the course of a weekend and show up on Sunday night to perform it for a live audience. In past years, Tonight it’s Poetry has shared the stage with these performers in support of the fundraiser.
A local non-profit organization supporting sexual health by offering sexual and reproductive health education, advocacy, clinical and abortion services to Saskatoon and the surrounding area. Tonight it’s Poetry and Saskatoon Sexual Health collaborate on an annual fundraiser for both organizations full of sexy spoken word, burlesque, prizes, and more.
The USSU Women’s Centre annual Take Back the Mic event often features poets from both Tonight it’s Poetry and Write Out Loud.
Saskatoon’s community radio station. CFCR used to host the Tonight it’s Poetry Radio program on Thursday’s at 6:30pm, hosted by Stephen Rutherford. Tonight it’s Poetry Radio is no longer active, due to lack of host. If you are interested in hosting a radio spot on behalf of prairie poets, including Tonight it’s Poetry and the Indigenous Poets Society, please reach out to us and we can make it happen.
A not for profit contemporary dance company specializing in mentorship and apprentice programs and innovative, risk-taking choreography. In the past, Tonight it’s Poetry has sent prize donations and poets to perform at their annual fundraiser, Sexy Bingo.
Our host venue and providers of delicious Mexican food and a variety of beverages. We would like to acknowledge their generosity of setting up space for us every Sunday and serving our poet party tea and beers.
