Poetry Share in the Park

Posted by on 11:46 pm in Blog Post | 0 comments

Poet Elise Pallagi, sharing words with a tree stump as her stage.

STARTING THIS SUNDAY We will be holding our first of a series of unofficial poetry event gatherings!

Each Sunday at 3 pm throughout the summer months, meet in front of the Francis Morrison Library. Once gathered, we will be crossing the street to share poetry on the grounds of City Hall. Everyone welcome to participate as audience or as poet/performer.

Accessibility and safety notes:

  • This will be an un-miked event. We acknowledge this may make it difficult for hard of hearing participants, or for those who have auditory processing difficulties, and for that we preemptively apologize. We hope we have chosen a quiet enough location and that poets feel confident enough to speak such that everyone can hear.
  • Public events are still limited to 30 people, max. If we find that our events exceed this number of people, or if we find there is difficulty hearing the performers, we may break into smaller groups to accommodate these limitations.
  • Please observe social distancing with anyone outside your family unit. Wearing masks are a personal choice, but we recommend that you do for the safety of those around you. You are also encouraged to bring other things you may need for your safety and comfort: hand sanitizer, sunblock/umbrellas, chair or cushion for seating, beverages, etc.
  • This event is (naturally) weather dependent! If you are unsure, check with our social media channel (https://www.facebook.com/TonightItsPoetry) for updates before you head out. We will have cancellation information set out at least an hour before the designated start time.
  • Each performer will have roughly 5 minutes to share. We set this limit so that everyone will have the chance to speak and to be heard.

CALLING ALL POETS!

Posted by on 9:39 pm in Blog Post | 0 comments

We have been missing you on Sunday nights. Given that our in-person shows are likely to remain cancelled for the foreseeable future, the board of directors has been brainstorming how to stay connected during this time.

As such, we would LOVE to share your content! Send us your poetry videos or images so that we can keep doing what we do best: connecting poets to audience, providing audience engaging content, and building community.

Please EMAIL your submissions to tonight.its.poetry@gmail.com along with any information you’d like us to share (your performance name, a short 1-2 sentence bio, links to your webpage(s), etc.).

There are some things you may wish to know about publishing poetry to social media:

-Posting content online is considered publication! This means that you may wish to reserve certain content if you wish to submit it later to a publisher or enter it into a contest, etc. It does not mean don’t share, just means choose judiciously!

The Facebook Terms of Service states that, once posted and until deleted (if that’s even possible, because deleting the initial post will not delete shares), Facebook has a (broad) license to use your work. There is no copyright transfer and Facebook does not own your content in any way. Tonight it’s Poetry cannot be held legally responsible for whatever happens to your content after it is posted.

-To continue to hold greater ownership of your work, you may wish to first load it onto your website or YouTube channel, then share the link with us instead.

-In accordance with SK Arts (which gives us funding we are so ever grateful to have), we will only share content that aligns with our performance guidelines.

Saskatoon Slam Team 2019

Posted by on 8:22 pm in Blog Post, Slam Teams | 0 comments

What happens when you put together storytellers, indigenous rights activists, queer poets, and entrepreneurs? You get Boiled, Soft. Saskatoon’s 2019 slam team features soft spoken but power packed poets: Ky Mason, Jay Schell (Javelin), Victoria Karoline, Janelle Pewapsconias (ecoaborijanelle), and Danica Lorer. They took to CFSW with a uniquely prairie perspective and voice, and they were asked to feature as a showcase on the final stage to show the nation what Saskatoon is all about.
